The Web PIM recap - November 3, 1999
hey WoW women,
well, the good news is that there were *lots* of WoW women at the PIM last
night -- thanks for helping to make it happen! and yes, there were lots of
men there, too, but then that's what the PIM is all about, meeting and
making connections. record turnout, cool -- and on a pretty warm night (a
coupla hundred bodies do raise the temps). last night was also the two-year
anniversary of the PIM (who was there on night number one, at Tosca --
remember?) and the best news of all is how our humble event has morphed
into *the* place to mingle and hear about exciting new companies and
ventures. a smattering of who was there and what was learned...
Will Greene of
http://www.NextVenue.com
says his company is in the business of streaming
media and "virtual road shows" and they are looking to hire producers,
programmers and project managers NOW...Deborah Christie is a partner at POP
Communications http://www.popcommunications.com
a one-stop shop (pop?) for
the design and implementation of your web strategy, which their consultants
will help you figure out...Gregoire Landel is a developer at Ten Fold
http://www.10fold.com
which develops survival-critical software (Y2K
compliant, I hope) and his company is hiring across the board -- marcom,
sales, development, you name it...Tim Honan handles commercial development
for ISL http://www.islco.com
a web house whose initials stand for Insight +
Stragegy + Logic and their quality work (and blue-chip client list) proves
it (and yes, they're hiring tech folk, too)...David Wilder is President of
Toronto-based
http://www.AutoGuide.net,
an A to Z compendium on
wheels...Aynne Valencia brought along several colleagues from
http://www.luminant.com
a company devoted to "business-driven digital
solutions"...Susan Williams of
http://www.viant.com
also works on creating
state-of-the-art internet strategies for web and non-web businesses
alike...Joanna Pomykala of
http://www.WetFeet.com
reminded me that her
company is about helping YOU create the job you want...Joyce Slaton
<jslaton@creative.net> just
returned from a month in Spain, where she loved
the Reina Sofia Museum (better than the Prado? no lo creo), churros con
chocolate and dancing till dawn (which is when things get going in
Madrid)...longtime WoWser Stannie Holt just took a job with Boston-based
Yankee Group (so Beantown!), where she's a research analyst working on
enterprise commerce and applications...Jeff Mackewicz of
http://www.iSpot.net
helps his clients compete more effectively on the
Internet...Ron Lue-Sang of Apple has a business card which dubs him "the
Jamaican-Chinese-WebObjects-QA Guy" and he has the sparkling wit to go
along with it...Leticia Ruiz Ochoa is an eBusiness Specialist at
http://www.beenz.com,
soon to become the web's currency if she has her way
(those beans, or beenz, that is) -- and Leticia's biz card also
rocks...former WoW site maven Tess Mercer also made the PIM along with
co-workers from
http://www.allbusiness.com,
*the* source for tools and
services for growing businesses (isn't that all of us, Tess?)...John
Bracken is director of biz dev at
http://www.evite.com and he's probably
wondering why I don't send out the PIM invite on evite (and they're hiring,
too)...WoW Pointwoman Mary Choy was nursing a sore ankle but you'd never
know it from her snazzy attire...Jeffrey Stern is a tech recruiter with
Information Technology Partners <jeff@itp-inc.com> and they are
looking for
some serious engineer types...Erik Noland, CEO of
http://www.LeagueSports.com
wants your team, whether it's serious soccer or
weekend volleyball, to align with his site...former WoW SIG woman Jill
Steinberger looked smashing in her colorful ensemble even if she did arrive
fashionably late (she still had time to talk up clients and projects and
the bursting-at-the-seams USWeb/CKS)...WoW crew members Nancy Purcell, Amy
Lightholder and Chia-Lin Simmons were all in attendance and working the
room...fellow PIMstress and Mixer Manager Suzanne Anderson is busily lining
up financing for her startup,
http://www.ArtistOne.com,
the future of music
online (don't *anyone* bet against La Anderson!)...and yours truly, the Web
PIMstress, is still chugging away on her own startup,
http://www.roadsage.com
a compendium of tips and tales on travel (on the
road, but not exactly a la Jack Kerouac).
okay, so I think everyone catches my drift here -- the PIM, once again, was
a great opportunity to see what's going on in our industry, make new
friends and talk to more recruiters than you can shake a stick at. *most
special thanks* go to last night's sponsor, eInitiatives
http://www.einitiatives.com,
the e-business architecting and integration
division of On-Demand Software Consultants. Peter Richards, Sales Manager
for On-Demand, brought out his crew and they really worked the room,
offering suggestions and advice to prospective job seekers. Ben Sperling
(and brother Aaron), co-founders of eInitiatives, were also especially
gracious.
next PIM is slated for early 2000 and will be utterly Y2K compliant...stay
tuned.
