The Web PIM recap - April 20, 1999
hey all,
the April PIM, once again, was a rockin' good time. we had upwards of 150
people waltz through (as per usual) and the weather cooperated nicely,
which meant we got to enjoy 850's fab outdoor patio. thanks again to the
850 crew, who take such good care of us while we're there.
Spotted in the crowd last night: mixer manager Suzanne Anderson (of
course!) talking up her new affiliation as partner at Global Net Ventures
<http://www.globalnetventures.com>,
which enables startups to go from biz
plan to $$$ in a flash (well, sorta)...Tiffany Bass of
<http://www.tiff.com>,
an internet consulting shop. Tiff is about to launch msmoney.com and is
looking for some savvy financial/writer types to contribute to her new site
(and Tiff's hubby is rolling out eWork exchange,
<http://www.ework.com>,
which pairs up hi-tech contractors with the right sites -- this is one busy
couple!)...Ruth Sutherland, principal at
<http://www.gatewaytoamerica.com>,
a VC fund looking for some *good* situations, if ya know what I mean...Beth
Pavlicberry (bberrysf@mindspring.com), a DBA who's looking to do work in
the health care arena...Alyce Lindquist, who is putting together a spanking
new CONSUMER site for Apple...Mindy Aronoff and Stacey Goodman of the Bay
Area Video Coalition
<http://www.bavc.org>,
a great non-profit which is
*hot* to sponsor a WoW event -- YES!...Eleanore McGarry of Ajilon
<http://www.ajilon.com>,
talking about the great jobs she's got available
for IT folks...Heidi Browning of Paladin
<http://www.paladinstaff.com>,
another staffing firm...and the ever-bubbly Deanna Abney of Creative Assets
<http://www.creativeassets.com>,
the digital talent source (yes, she's got
lots of jobs for creative types!) who has graciously agreed to sponsor
yummy eats for our next PIM.
now don't you wish you'd been there?
okay, enough browbeating, who else was there...Karen Solomon
(ksolomon@wenet.net), luscious as ever in turquoise sequins and her beloved
Doc Martens...Pointwoman Cyd Harrell (cydh@postmark.net) in a sexy blue
skirt I just *have* to have (isn't WoW planning a clothing swap sometime
soon, Cyd?). Cyd is looking forward to returning to her passion, writing,
once her SC duties are over in June (I know what you mean, girl)...Amy
Lightholder smiling and flitting (excuse me, I meant networking) about the
room and espousing the virtues of her virtuous employer, Snap...Kai Haley
(kai@ideograf.com) of webshop Ideograf handing out biz cards better'n
anyone else...Teresa Lehane, my favorite illustrator
(lehanedesign@worldnet.att.net), who left her hubby a home-cooked meal so
he wouldn't miss her too much while she was schmoozing at the PIM...WoW
events manager Michelle Nance (mnance@sirius.com) making us all jealous by
talking about her upcoming trip to Me-hee-co (and basking in the glow of
her cool new job at FWE (is that
<http://www.fwe.org>,
Michelle?)...Valerie
Hoecke of Fire Engine Red talking big deals with the big boys (and girls --
ahem, women)...Nancy Purcell in another great pantsuit -- where do you
shop, woman?...SC member Anna Billstrom of Mixmedia and her sister
Jennifer, a real lookalike twosome...SC woman Mary Choy smoochin' with her
boy (I caught ya, sister!)...Deborah Harkins of Microtrip, spotted at the
WiM meeting the night before (as were the aforementioned Suzanne and Kai --
it was an excellent program!)...Susan Stearman of Ligos Technology, hatless
for a change (are those straw babies still packed away,
cutie?)...iVillage's Julie Joyce, slinky in black and engaged in chatter
that matters...oh, and me, too, trying to greet as many of you as possible
between sips of fine white wine (sorry, Mare, no cigars for me).
and yes, there were lots of men there, too, but last night's PIM may have
been the first one where we had more WOMEN than MEN! go WoWsers! sure, it's
still pretty close to a tie between our side and theirs, but that's the
whole idea -- a cross-platform (men/women) mixer which enables us to better
network and get ahead in the process.
next PIM should be the first week in June so stay tuned...we're going to
try to do three PIMs during the summer (early June/mid July/late August) to
take advantage of 850's fine outdoor patio. fun! June PIM will hopefully be
on a Wednesday for those of you with standing Tuesday commitments.
